On the night of December 9, several Russian regions experienced a large-scale drone attack. The most notable were the explosions in Cheboksary, the capital of the Chuvash Republic, where smoke rose and a fire broke out after a series of strikes in the city.
Local newspapers reported on the event.
According to preliminary estimates, one of the possible targets was the Energozapchastina plant, which produces generator equipment and parts for power systems and is part of the Russian military-industrial complex. The head of the Center for the Study of the Occupation, Petro Andryuschenko, reported on the likely hit on the enterprise.
Some of the UAV debris fell on a high-rise building, regional authorities said. Several streets in the city were blocked as a result of the attack, and Cheboksary Airport temporarily restricted the arrival and departure of aircraft.
At the same time, explosions were heard in the Ryazan region, which, according to local officials, experienced a “massive raid” of drones. The Russian Defense Ministry reported that it allegedly shot down ten Ukrainian aircraft-type drones. Governor Pavel Malkov assures that “there is no serious damage,” but at the same time he admitted that emergency services are assessing the damage.
The Lipetsk region was not spared the attack either: the explosions began just after midnight, and local residents reported that the walls of their homes were shaking from the impacts. The Russian Defense Ministry announced “three downed UAVs,” but monitoring resources indicate that the Koksohimmontazh industrial facility could have been the target.
At the same time, the Russian Defense Ministry published another report, stating that “more than 120 drones were shot down” in various regions, including the Belgorod region, occupied Crimea, Krasnodar Krai, Kalmykia, the Caspian Sea, and other territories.
Despite official assurances from the Russian authorities about the “successful work of air defense”, numerous reports of fires, damaged facilities, and blocked roads indicate the real consequences of the night attacks.
As a reminder, in the Chechen capital of Grozny, a drone hit one of the skyscrapers housing the Security Council of Chechnya.
As reported, on the night of December 5, unknown drones attacked two Russian regions, hitting a seaport and an oil refinery.
