Russia has stepped up its propaganda in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine ahead of the so-called State Duma elections. The Kremlin is trying to create the illusion of caring for local residents through show-stopping development projects.

This was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation.

According to the Center for the Promotion of the Arts, Russian propaganda resources in the occupied territories are actively advertising the results of a competition for projects to create a comfortable urban environment for the so-called reunited and border areas.

The Russian side calls the United Russia party, which is participating in the State Duma elections, the founder of the initiative.

The occupation authorities claim that the winners of the competition will receive federal funds to equip parks, squares, and playgrounds. At the same time, the Central Development Agency emphasizes that the announcement of funding does not mean that Russia will actually implement these projects.

The Center believes that the Kremlin is using such initiatives primarily for election propaganda. Instead of solving critical problems in the occupied territories, the Russian authorities are focusing on relatively inexpensive development projects.

At the same time, many occupied cities and villages still have destroyed residential buildings, industrial enterprises, and other infrastructure. Local residents also face water supply problems and a lack of jobs.

The Central Democratic Party emphasized that the Kremlin is using the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine to create the necessary propaganda image on the eve of the elections.
