The Russian army has carried out several attacks in various sectors of the front in recent days, but they are not having a significant impact on the course of the spring-summer offensive of 2026.

The Institute for the Study of War reports this.

According to analysts, Russian troops conducted several platoon-level assaults on April 18-19. Specifically, the following was recorded:

  • two mechanized offensives east of Vremenny Yar;
  • a motorized attack using Ural trucks and motorcycles near Svyatopetrivka;
  • Another mechanized assault in the Kucherovo area of the Kursk region.

The ISW notes that none of these assaults resulted in significant tactical successes. Most of the attacks did not advance beyond the contact line.

Analysts suggest that such actions may be reconnaissance in nature to identify the positions of Ukrainian troops and test their defenses before larger-scale operations.

Russian forces could also use such attacks to disperse Ukrainian units along the front and divert them from key areas, particularly Slavyansk.

At the same time, the report notes that to achieve a real breakthrough, Russia will need to invest significantly more resources and time. So far, attempts to create the illusion of a large-scale offensive have failed to yield tangible results.

Analysts cite the only exception to this rule in the area northwest of Hulyaipole, where Russian troops are likely using strategic reserves. However, even there, the occupiers are facing significant difficulties.
