As a result of new attacks by Russian occupiers, consumers in the Dnipropetrovsk, Odessa, Zaporizhzhia, and Kharkiv regions remain without power as of the morning of January 21.
The Ministry of Energy reported this on Telegram .
According to First Deputy Minister of Energy Artem Nekrasov, the situation in the power grid remains challenging due to Russia’s constant attacks on energy infrastructure. Power and heating company repair crews are working nonstop, and emergency restoration work has begun in all affected regions.
In Kyiv and the Kyiv region, the situation is complicated by severe frosts and additional strain on the grid. Emergency crews from other regions and Ukrzaliznytsia have been called in to restore electricity and heat supplies. Hourly outage schedules are temporarily suspended in the capital, but operators are continuing to impose network restrictions. Meanwhile, water supply has already been restored in Kyiv.
The capital has received 55 generators from the Ministry of Energy’s backup hub and is awaiting further assistance from international partners. Critical infrastructure operations are also being reviewed to free up additional electricity for residents.
In the Odesa region, grid restrictions remain in place. In other regions, hourly outage schedules and power restrictions for industry are in effect, and in some areas, emergency shutdowns are being implemented due to freezing temperatures. Due to massive attacks by the Russian Federation, a state of emergency has been declared in the Ukrainian power grid.
As a reminder, Ukraine has secured new energy aid packages from foreign partners, which will help strengthen the resilience of its energy system amid ongoing Russian shelling.
