Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov has called for the Russian Federation to immediately begin preparations for full-scale nuclear tests, signaling a dangerous escalation in Moscow’s military posture.
He made these remarks during a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and members of the Security Council, according to Russian propaganda outlets.
Belousov emphasized that the United States is actively expanding its strategic offensive capabilities, planning to develop a new intercontinental missile, a strategic submarine, and decommission certain launchers.
In his view, this justifies the urgent preparation for nuclear tests.
Meanwhile, Russian Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov added that the readiness of forces and facilities at the central training ground on the Novaya Zemlya archipelago allows the exercise to be carried out quickly.
Putin, in turn, instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Defense, intelligence agencies, and civilian authorities to prepare proposals on the feasibility of conducting nuclear weapons tests.
“The Russian Federation has warned that, in the event of nuclear tests by other countries, it will take retaliatory action,” the dictator stated.
