The day before, on February 25, during the Russian attack on Ukraine, one of the enemy drones crossed Romanian airspace.
This was reported by the country’s Ministry of Defense.
As the department said, when Russia launched new air strikes on Ukrainian ports located on the Danube, radars detected the presence of a drone near the border with Romania.
Bucharest then proactively prepared air defense systems, and later scrambled two F-16 fighter jets to patrol the airspace.
At around 6:07 p.m., an air alert was issued for residents of Tulcea County in northern Romania amid Russian UAV activity.
The occupiers’ drone entered Romanian territory in the Sfintu Gheorghe area. The ministry assured that the drone did not pose a danger to society, and later exited the airspace north of Sulina, flying over territorial waters.
The air raid alert was reported at around 6:45 p.m. No UAV debris was found in Romania.
“The Ministry of National Defense strongly condemns the attacks of the Russian Federation on the civilian infrastructure of Ukraine. These actions are a serious violation of international law and a threat to regional security,” the department concluded.
As a reminder, on February 26, Polish and allied aircraft took to the air due to the Russian massive shelling of Ukrainian regions.
