Russian forces attack Pokrovsk: what is known about the situation in the Donetsk region

Russian occupation forces have intensified their combat activity in the eastern part of Donetsk region, launching large-scale offensive operations. This comes against the backdrop of US President Donald Trump’s fruitless attempts to initiate new peace talks.

According to the publication, Russian leader Vladimir Putin has tasked the military command with establishing full control over the city of Pokrovsk by mid-November 2025. Some enemy units have already penetrated the outskirts of the settlement, but Ukrainian defense forces deny reports of a complete encirclement of the city.
As the Financial Times notes, Pokrovsk played a key role in the logistics system of Donbass until 2024, remaining an important transport hub. Its potential loss would create significant risks for Ukraine and open up new opportunities for the enemy to advance deeper into the territory.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed the presence of approximately two hundred Russian military personnel within the city. At the same time, intense fighting continues along the entire front line, which stretches for more than a thousand kilometers.
As a reminder, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, believes that the current offensive of Russian troops in the East may become the last large-scale offensive operation of the Russian Federation, and next year we will be able to talk about the prospects for peace .
By the way, during a meeting at the White House, US presidential envoy Steve Witkoff insisted that Ukraine hand over control of the Donetsk region to Russia, arguing that the region is predominantly Russian-speaking. This position provoked a sharp reaction from the Ukrainian delegation.
