Russian frigate fired flares at Danish helicopter: Copenhagen’s reaction

A military helicopter of the Danish Armed Forces was fired at by flares from a Russian frigate near Gedeser on September 14.
This was reported by TV2 with reference to the Danish military command.
The incident involved an AS-550 Fennec helicopter of the Danish Air Force, which was carrying out a scheduled survey of a Russian frigate. The ship was in international waters.
According to the Danish military command, the Russian ship fired two flares at the helicopter. One of them flew close to the aircraft.
Danish Defense Minister Jeppe Bruus condemned Russia’s actions. He said Copenhagen was summoning the Russian ambassador for explanations.
“This is a serious incident that Denmark takes very seriously. As far as I know, this is the first time we have encountered such an incident, and this, of course, indicates that the Russians are becoming more risk-averse. So this is a serious incident, and that is why we are summoning the Russian ambassador for a conversation,” Bruus said.
It was previously reported that Russian special services are preparing sabotage in Denmark, in particular against defense-industrial complex enterprises related to military assistance to Ukraine. Danish counterintelligence has already detected attempts by Russians to involve ordinary citizens in such actions via social media.
