Russian helicopter crossed the Polish border: how did the military react?

A Russian Mi-8 military helicopter violated Polish airspace near the border with the Kaliningrad region of the Russian Federation on September 23. In response, the Polish military scrambled fighter jets.

This was reported by the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces.

The incident occurred at 11:08 local time north of the city of Braniewo. According to the Polish command, the Russian Mi-8 was flying from the Kaliningrad region.

The helicopter flew into Polish airspace approximately 300 meters and stayed there for 42 seconds .

The Russian plane’s flight was constantly monitored by Polish radar systems. In connection with the border violation, fighter jets were scrambled, and the relevant ground forces and assets were put on alert.

The Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces stated that the nature of the incident, in their opinion, indicates another attempt by Russia to test the readiness of the Polish air defense system.

As a reminder, on September 18, Poland scrambled fighter jets due to the massive Russian attack on Ukraine . Due to the activity of military aviation, the operation of the airports of Lublin and Rzeszow was temporarily suspended.

Earlier, on September 17, Polish fighter jets also scrambled after a Russian drone was shot down near Jagodin , a few kilometers from the Polish-Ukrainian border.
