On Wednesday, December 3, deputies of the Verkhovna Rada adopted a law to exclude Russian from the list of languages requiring protection.
This is stated on the BP website.
According to deputy Volodymyr Viatrovych, the Rada adopted the draft law as a whole with 264 votes in favor, approving the correct translation of the European Language Charter.
In this way, the Russian and Moldovan languages were removed from the ratification law.
As Viatrovych explained, the Russian language is no longer protected in Ukraine by the European Language Charter.
“Instead, the Charter’s effect has been preserved for all other languages it has applied to so far, and has been extended to Urumqi, Rumi, Roma, Czech, Crimean Tatar, Karaite, and Yiddish,” he added.
