Russian offensive in Ukraine slowed down: occupiers lost control over 116 sq. km in a month

Analysts at the Institute for the Study of War have announced a slowdown in the pace of the Russian army’s offensive on the front in Ukraine and a reduction in the number of combat clashes. Russian troops lost control of 116 square kilometers in a month, and the advance of the occupiers has significantly slowed down in most directions.

Analysts note that the relative slowdown in the pace of Russian troop advance may be partly due to seasonal weather conditions.

“The pace of the enemy offensive is falling and this process began back in November 2025. The Armed Forces of Ukraine are conducting successful ground counterattacks. Accurate strikes at medium distances are knocking out logistics. The enemy is forced to defend where he planned to attack,” experts note.

ISW emphasized that Russia lost control over 116 square kilometers in one month. Analysts recalled that a similar situation was last observed in August 2024, after the start of the Ukrainian Armed Forces operation in the Kursk region.

The report also drew attention to weather conditions in Ukraine. According to analysts, average temperatures in eastern Ukraine in the winter of 2025-2026 were about 3 degrees lower than the previous winter, and the winter itself was significantly wetter.

In addition, Russian “military corps” reported problems with the Russian air campaign and doubts about whether the Russian army would be able to effectively use the increased bombing capabilities.

It was previously reported that Russian occupation forces are trying to advance north of Kupyansk in the Kharkiv region, in particular in the area of the village of Holubivka.

Recall that the Russian army carried out several attacks on various sections of the front, but they did not have a significant impact on the course of the spring-summer offensive of 2026.
