Russian offensive may shift to Dnieper – media

The French publication Le Monde published a report on the Dnipro, which journalists called the “crossroads of three fronts” and one of Ukraine’s key logistical hubs.

The material notes that in the event of a new large-scale Russian operation, the city could become a strategic target for Moscow.

Dnipro Mayor Borys Filatov told reporters that the front is gradually approaching the city, along with missile and drone attacks.

“I never plan more than a week ahead,” he said, commenting on the situation in the city.

According to Filatov, if an attempt were made to capture the Dnieper, it would be a serious turning point in the war. The publication emphasizes that the city is located at the “crossroads of three fronts” and performs a military, logistical and humanitarian function.

Dnipro lies on the Dnipro River, like Kyiv, and serves as a gateway south to Zaporizhia and east to Donbas, where fierce fighting continues. The Russian army has been advancing towards the Dnipropetrovsk region since the summer of 2025 and has already occupied several villages in the region.

Le Monde calls Dnipro an industrial city that embodies the history of modern Ukraine and its resistance to Russian aggression. Local residents, military personnel, and internally displaced persons coexist in the city. At the same time, despite its strategic importance, it remains less well-known than Kyiv, Kharkiv, or Odessa.

Journalists emphasize that although Russian troops are still far from the city itself, its importance as a potential target in the event of a new offensive campaign is growing.

It was previously reported that units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine have had some successes on the front line in the Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhia regions.
