Russian propaganda is spreading a video in which fighters of the 81st Separate Airmobile Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine allegedly “crossed over to the side of the Russian Federation” and raised Russian flags over their positions.
This was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation.
The Central Military District contacted the military of the 81st Brigade for confirmation, where they stated that the video was fake and created using artificial intelligence.
According to the military, the movements and facial expressions of the people in the frame look unnatural, and the voices have characteristic signs of synthetic sounding. In addition, Russian resources themselves admitted in their publications that the video was generated using AI.
The individual shots with Russian flags at the end of the video are also not true. They were taken in winter, when there was snow on the ground, while there is no snow cover in the area now.
The brigade emphasized that one of the locations in the video is completely under the control of Ukrainian paratroopers, so the occupiers could not have filmed there recently.
The military quickly checked another location using drones. No Russian flags were recorded there, and the buildings in the video are significantly different from the real ones.
The Central Countermeasures Center for Countering Disinformation noted that the purpose of such postings is to demoralize the Ukrainian military and create the illusion of mass defections to the side of the occupiers.
Such fakes are especially actively spread on the eve of May 9, when Russian propaganda is trying to demonstrate “successes” to its own leadership.
It was previously reported that Russian propagandists are spreading a new information hoax about alleged “atrocities” by the Ukrainian military.
