Russian ship attacked in the Black Sea: what is known

On Tuesday, December 2, the Turkish General Directorate of Maritime Affairs reported an attack on the Russian tanker MIDVOLGA 2, which was en route from Russia to Georgia.

This is reported by the local publication Deniz Haber.

The ship was carrying sunflower oil and was 80 nautical miles off the Turkish coast. There were 13 crew members on board – no one was injured or required assistance.

After the attack, the tanker changed course and is heading to the Turkish city of Sinop without escort, as the engines are working properly. MIDVOLGA 2 is a 140-meter vessel built in 2014, sailing under the Russian flag, with a home port of Bolshoi Port St. Petersburg.

As a reminder, near Dakar, the capital of Senegal, the Mersin oil tanker, which was carrying diesel fuel and has ties to Russia, suffered four external damages . The incident was the third time in several days that explosions have damaged vessels associated with Russian shipments.

Two tankers from Russia’s shadow fleet, which are under international sanctions, have reportedly exploded in the Black Sea . The incidents occurred almost simultaneously off the coast of Turkey.
