President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has warned international airlines and insurers that Russian airspace is becoming increasingly dangerous for civilian aviation as Ukrainian drone operations intensify. He stressed that Ukraine does not target civilian aircraft but said the growing presence of drones over Russia means the country’s skies can no longer be considered safe.

Zelenskyy stated this in his address.

The president called on airlines that continue to use Russian airspace to take the situation into account, particularly when flying to Moscow, St. Petersburg, and other major cities.

“Russian skies are becoming completely dangerous,” Zelensky said.

He stressed that Ukraine does not aim to strike civilian aircraft. At the same time, the risks to civil aviation are increasing due to the war and the large number of drones in Russian skies.

“Drones will be in the sky of Russia in such a way that we need to take this into account. Although the Russian authorities are not reporting this as they should, the Russian sky will de facto be closed: the war unleashed by Russia is closing its sky,” the president noted.

Zelensky also announced that the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other state structures will provide international organizations with information about the risks of flights over Russia.

“Civil aviation has no place among drones,” he stressed.

The president called on diplomats to convey this information to their countries. According to him, safety in Russian skies can only be restored after a real movement towards peace begins.
