Russian special services tried to organize an explosion in Rivne: SBU foiled the operation
The Security Service of Ukraine has prevented a new attempted terrorist attack in Rivne. A Russian special services agent was caught red-handed when he planted a homemade bomb near a cafe in the central park.
This was reported by the press service of the SBU.
According to the case materials, the Russian order was carried out by a drug addict resident of Zhytomyr recruited by the enemy. The suspect came to the attention of the Russian special services while looking for “money for a dose” in Telegram channels.
The occupiers later “sent” the recruited agent to Rivne. There, he settled in a rented apartment, where, on the instructions of Russian special services, he made an improvised explosive device (IED).
The investigation established that the attacker disguised the explosives in a saucepan and equipped it with nuts to enhance the impact.
After planting the IED, the occupiers planned to remotely activate it by calling a mobile phone that was attached to the bomb.
According to the case materials, the man put on a military uniform as a conspiracy when he was heading to the site of the planned terrorist attack.
During the search, a smartphone with evidence of working for the enemy was found on him.
Investigators of the Security Service informed the defendant of suspicion under Part 1 of Article 14, Part 5 of Article 27, Part 2 of Article 258 (assistance in the preparation of a terrorist act committed by a group of persons in advance of a conspiracy) and Part 2 of Article 263-1 (illegal manufacture of explosives or explosive devices).
The perpetrator is currently in custody. He faces up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The comprehensive measures were carried out by SBU officers in the Rivne region under the procedural guidance of the regional prosecutor’s office.
As a reminder, the SBU counterintelligence and the National Police prevented a terrorist attack in the center of Kharkiv and detained a 16-year-old Russian military intelligence agent.
