Russian strike on Zhytomyr on August 19: number of casualties rises to 53

The death toll from the Russian attack on Zhytomyr on August 19 has risen to three people. Another 53 were injured.

This was reported to the State Emergency Service.

The Russian strike hit the regional police headquarters building. The fire that broke out as a result of the attack has already been extinguished by rescuers.

“The death toll from yesterday’s Russian attack in Zhytomyr has increased to 3 people, 53 people were injured,” the department noted.

Emergency and restoration work is currently underway at the site. Emergency workers are dismantling damaged structures and examining the area. Rescuers-climbers from Cherkasy and Rivne regions have been involved in the work.

The State Emergency Service noted that the work continued all night, but had to be interrupted due to repeated air raid alarms. Aid stations are also operating at the site.

In particular, aid stations were also deployed on site.

It was previously reported that on the night of August 20, Russia launched a massive strike on Kyiv, using strike drones and ballistic and cruise missiles. The attack killed at least eight people and injured 33 others

Also in Boryspil, Kyiv region, food warehouses and Red Cross facilities were damaged as a result of the Russian strike. Fires broke out in the area, which are currently being extinguished by rescuers.

In addition, August 21 will be declared a Day of Mourning in Kyiv for those killed in the massive Russian attack. National flags will be flown at half-mast in the capital, and entertainment events will be banned.
