Russia has initiated a rewriting of the history of the CIS countries to remove negative references to the Soviet Union.
This was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation.
The CPR noted that Russia is taking the rewriting of history to a new level. It is putting pressure on the CIS countries.
“Russian Education Minister Sergei Kravtsov has stated about “problems” in history textbooks of the CIS countries. In particular, Moscow is not satisfied with the fact that the description of the Soviet past in them is “negative in nature”, therefore negotiations are already underway with relevant ministers to “agree on a unified approach to interpreting the common past,” the report says.
Such actions are an attempt to impose a version of history favorable to the Kremlin on others.
It is noted that the war in Ukraine has launched a large-scale wave of historical censorship in the Russian Federation itself, and now it is spreading to other states. To do this, Russians are using slogans about a “single educational space” and “mental unity of Eurasia.”
The CPD recalled that for Moscow, “common history” is only a tool for keeping the former Soviet republics under its influence.
“And Russia understands that it risks losing this lever. After all, the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine opened the eyes of many CIS countries to what the “Russian world” is,” the CPD noted.
The CPS previously reported that Putin had personally intervened in the educational process, taking control of the content of history textbooks in schools . He called old Russian textbooks “Russophobic” and unreliable.
