Russians attacked an electric train in the Kharkiv region twice in a row: there are dead and injured

In the Kharkiv region, Russian troops twice attacked the Lozova – Kharkiv electric train at Lymanivka station. The first strike killed a passenger, four others were injured, and there were no casualties during the second attack.

This was announced by the Minister of Reconstruction, Infrastructure and Transport of Ukraine Mykola Kalashnyk.

The incident occurred on August 23 at the Lymanivka station in the Kharkiv region. A Russian drone hit an electric train traveling along the Lozova – Kharkiv route.

Due to the threat of a UAV strike, the train was stopped early, after which the railway workers began evacuating passengers. Most people, together with the train crew, moved to a safe distance from the railway infrastructure, but some passengers remained near the rolling stock.

“The majority, along with the train crew, were at a safe distance from the railway infrastructure, but some people remained near the train. This had fatal consequences: a female passenger died from the impact and 4 more people were injured,” Kalashnik said.

According to him, after the first strike, the Russian military attacked the same train again while rescuers were working. This time, there were no new casualties.

Kalashnik urged passengers to clearly follow the instructions of railway workers during the evacuation and not to remain near the rolling stock due to the risk of repeated strikes.

In addition to the attack in the Kharkiv region, Russian forces struck a passenger train in the Odessa region that day. A Shahed rocket hit the locomotive, after which the train was also stopped and the passengers evacuated.

There were 593 people on board the train, including 15 children. After the first hit, the Russian military attacked the locomotive again, but this time no one was injured. The passengers were taken to Odessa by buses with the help of the Odessa OVA and the State Emergency Service.

According to Kalashnik, since the beginning of 2026, Russia has carried out 1,534 attacks on Ukrainian railways. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, 249 cars and 492 locomotives have been damaged. 52 employees of Ukrzaliznytsia have died in the line of duty, and another 317 railway workers have been injured. At the same time, Kalashnik stressed that Ukrainian railways continue to operate despite constant attacks.

“Despite the losses, pain, and constant danger, the Ukrainian railway does not stop. Trains continue to take people home, evacuate from shelling, return military personnel to their families, and connect the cities of our country,” the minister emphasized.

Recall that on August 13, Russian troops attacked a passenger train in the Odessa region with a drone . The strike killed the train driver and his assistant.
