The Russian army has significantly increased the use of jet attack drones during attacks on Ukraine. Since the beginning of 2026, the Russian military has already used 1,400 of these devices, which is almost 8 times more than in all of 2025.

Chief Researcher of the State Research Institute for Testing and Certification of Armaments and Military Equipment, Colonel Oleksandr Zaruba, during the briefing “The Use of Russian Air Attack Means Against Civilian Infrastructure: Technical and Humanitarian Aspects” announced a large-scale increase in Russia’s use of new jet drones.
According to him, among the main types of jet drones that Russian troops use to strike Ukraine are the Geran-3, Geran-4, and Geran-5.
According to official statistics, since the beginning of 2026, the Russian Federation has already produced 1,400 high-speed drones of this type. For comparison, in 2025, air defense forces recorded 180 cases of the use of such devices.
According to the expert, the increase in the number of jet drones allows the enemy to more quickly overcome areas where mobile fire group units are located. In addition, for some interceptor drones, such targets become unattainable due to the higher flight speed.
In particular, the Shahed-238 jet drone, known as Geran-3, has a cruising speed of 350 to 550 kilometers per hour and a flight range of up to 1,500 kilometers.
Russian troops also actively use the Geran-4, which is equipped with a warhead weighing 50 kilograms and has a flight range of 850 kilometers.
The largest in this series is the Geran-5 drone. Its fuselage is 6.5 meters long, and the TeleFly TF-Tj2000a turbojet engine provides high speed characteristics.
By the way, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrsky, reported that Russia plans to increase the share of the use of jet attack drones to 50% . This issue requires a timely response.
