Russians massively attacked Ukraine with kamikaze drones: air defense systems shot down 84 air targets

On the night of June 16, Ukrainian skies withstood one of the most powerful drone attacks from Russia in recent times. Starting at 9:00 p.m. on June 15, the enemy launched 138 Shahed attack UAVs and simulated drones from the directions of Bryansk, Kursk, Orel, and Shatalovoye.

This was reported by the press service of the Air Force.

It is noted that the main focus of the attack was Donetsk region, but alarm signals were heard throughout the country. In response, all components of the air defense were involved: fighter aircraft, anti-aircraft missile troops, mobile fire groups, electronic warfare (EW) and unmanned systems of the Defense Forces of Ukraine.

By morning, 125 enemy drones had been destroyed:

  • 84 Shahed and other UAVs were shot down by fire;
  • 41 drones were suppressed or lost thanks to electronic warfare.

Despite the successful defense, hits were recorded in 10 settlements, and drone debris fell in another 8 locations. The assessment of the consequences and damage is currently ongoing.

Earlier, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine updated data on the losses of the Russian army in the war against Ukraine , so in the 24 hours of June 15, the Ukrainian military destroyed 1,200 occupiers and 18 enemy artillery systems.
