Russia’s massive strike on the power grid damaged substations and thermal power plants, and Ukraine invited emergency assistance from Poland.
Russian forces launched a massive attack on key energy infrastructure in Ukraine. Substations, power lines, and thermal power plants came under fire. Due to the aftermath of the attack, Ukraine has requested emergency assistance from Poland.
Energy Minister Denis Shmygal announced this.
According to him, the main targets of the strikes were substations and overhead power lines with a voltage of 750 kV and 330 kV – critical elements of the national energy system.
Furthermore, power generation facilities, specifically the Burshtyn and Dobrotvir thermal power plants, were attacked. Due to infrastructure damage, 4.5–5 emergency power outage schedules were implemented across the country, with additional special schedules in effect in the eastern and northern regions.
For safety reasons, nuclear power plant operators temporarily reduced the load on the power units. To stabilize the system, Ukrenergo’s dispatcher activated a request for emergency support from Poland.
As a reminder, on the night of February 7, Russian troops launched attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure facilities, specifically substations, overhead power lines, and the Burshtyn and Dobrotvir thermal power plants.
