Russia’s Orsk Oil Refinery has halted operations following a drone attack.

The Russian Orsknefteorgsintez oil refinery in the Orenburg region has ceased operations following an attack by Ukrainian drones.

Reuters reports this, citing two sources in the oil industry.

According to the agency’s sources, the attack resulted in a fire at the plant, and damage to some oil processing units. Ukrainian military personnel confirmed the strike on the plant the day before.

The refinery’s owner, Forteinvest, did not respond to Reuters’ request for comment on the situation at the plant.

Orsknefteorgsintez’s nominal capacity is 5.76 million tons of oil per year, or approximately 115,200 barrels per day. In 2024, the refinery processed approximately 4.2 million tons of crude oil.

According to industry sources, last year the company produced approximately 1.8 million tons of diesel fuel, 600 thousand tons of gasoline, 500 thousand tons of bitumen and 200 thousand tons of fuel oil.

The attack occurred on the night of August 11. At the time, the governor of the Orenburg region reported a fire at an industrial facility in Orsk following the fall of drone debris, without specifying the name.

The Ukrainian General Staff subsequently confirmed the damage to Orsknefteorgsintez. Experts are assessing the extent of the damage and the consequences of the plant’s shutdown.
