Ukraine’s Drone Strike Knocks Out Russia’s Second-Largest Oil Refinery

The Kirishi oil refinery in the Leningrad region, considered the second largest refinery in Russia, has stopped refining oil after an attack by Ukrainian drones.
Reuters reports this, citing its own sources.
According to the agency, three of the four primary oil distillation units, as well as several secondary technological units, were damaged by the impact.
As a result, the company stopped the main processing.
The Kirishinefteorgsintez refinery is the largest in the Leningrad Region and one of the largest in Russia. Its capacity is 20-21 million tons of oil per year.
This plant accounts for over 6% of all oil refining in the Russian Federation, making it one of the key enterprises in the Russian fuel industry.
In addition, the plant’s oil pumping station ensures the supply of oil and petroleum products for export through the port of Primorsk, which is of strategic importance for Russian exports.
Thus, a strike on the Kirishki Refinery could significantly affect not only the domestic fuel market of the Russian Federation but also export supplies.
It was previously reported that on the night of May 5, drones attacked the Leningrad region of the Russian Federation. An oil refinery in the city of Kirishi was hit, after which a fire broke out there.
As a reminder, in April, the fifth oil refinery in Russia was shut down after attacks by Ukrainian drones.
