An oil refinery in Syzran, Samara Oblast, Russia, has completely ceased operations after being damaged in a drone attack on December 5.

Reuters reports this, citing sources.

According to the agency’s sources, the drones hit the CDU-6 crude oil distillation unit, a key piece of equipment at the refinery. This same facility had already been hit in August, after which the refinery needed two weeks of repairs.

Now, sources estimate that the resumption of work could take about a month.

Reuters adds that last year, the refinery’s oil refining capacity was significantly below full capacity—approximately 90,000 barrels per day. In 2024, the Syzran Oil Refinery will produce approximately 800,000 tons of gasoline, 1.5 million tons of diesel fuel, and 700,000 tons of fuel oil.

It was previously reported that global oil prices fell to their lowest levels in a month the day before.

As a reminder, Russian budget revenues from oil and gas sales in November could decline by approximately 35% compared to November last year.
