Ryazan Refinery Suspends Operations After Drone Strike: Recovery Will Take Two Weeks — Media
One of Russia’s largest oil refineries, the Ryazan Refinery, has suspended operations after a drone attack and could remain shut down for about two weeks.
Reuters reports this, citing its own sources.
The company, owned by Rosneft, halted oil refining on Wednesday after the overnight attack, the agency said. It is expected to take about two weeks to restore production.
Reuters sources explain that restarting a refinery after an unscheduled shutdown is a complex process. This requires restarting primary and secondary processing units, adjusting technological processes, and ensuring that finished products meet quality standards.
The Ryazan Refinery had already suffered damage from a drone attack on May 15, which also temporarily halted operations.
Despite the production halt, the plant continues to sell petroleum products through the St. Petersburg International Commodity Exchange. As of Thursday, batches of gasoline and diesel fuel were on sale.
According to industry sources, in 2024, the Ryazan Refinery processed 13.1 million tons of oil, which is almost 5% of all oil refining in Russia. During this period, the enterprise produced 2.2 million tons of gasoline, 3.4 million tons of diesel fuel and 4.3 million tons of fuel oil.
It was previously reported that on the night of July 31, drones attacked several facilities in the Russian Federation . The Volgograd Oil Refinery, as well as the logistics complexes of the Wildberries marketplace in the Volgograd region and Tatarstan, were hit. The attacks resulted in fires at the facilities.
As a reminder, Ryazan also suffered a massive drone attack on the morning of July 30. After a series of explosions, large-scale fires broke out at at least two facilities — the Ryazan Oil Refinery and the sorting complex of the Wildberries marketplace.
