Sanctions against Poroshenko: Rapporteur on Ukraine in the European Parliament calls for abolition of extrajudicial pressure on the opposition

The rapporteur on Ukraine, MEP Michael Gahler, called for the abolition of extrajudicial sanctions as a tool of pressure on the opposition.

“Ukraine must continue to build on its reform momentum: strengthening its democratic institutions, aligning its actions with the EU’s common foreign and security policy, and tackling corruption and the shortcomings of the judiciary. These steps are not only crucial for EU accession, but also the basis for the population’s trust in the state and the legal system. That is why we also demand police procedures.

We call for an end to untimely and politically motivated trials and sanctions against opposition members, the preservation of parliamentary pluralism and the promotion of constructive dialogue between political groups in the Verkhovna Rada. In addition, all mandate-related and political travel restrictions for members of the Verkhovna Rada should be lifted,” Gahler stressed.
