US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant confirmed that Washington will continue to impose sanctions to limit Russia’s energy export revenues. According to him, the Treasury Department will “ensure full implementation of the restrictions” aimed at the financial sources of the aggressor state.
The head of the department stated this on the social network X, commenting on a Reuters publication about the change in the routes of Russian oil tankers after the latest package of US restrictions.
According to the agency, at least two ships carrying Russian oil to India have changed course after the imposition of US sanctions. One of them, the tanker Tagor, is now heading to China instead of the port of Chennai in India. Another, the vessel Tassos, has changed its route to Port Said in Egypt.
In total, more than 115 individuals, companies, and vessels linked to Iran and Russia were sanctioned, including those involved in the logistics of supplying Russian oil.
According to trade sources, the restrictions are beginning to significantly affect Russian exports — in particular, supplies to India, which is one of the largest buyers of Russian oil, providing more than a third of its imports at the expense of Russia.
As a reminder, the administration of US President Donald Trump is considering a new package of sanctions against Russia’s “shadow fleet” of oil tankers if the Kremlin does not agree to a ceasefire in Ukraine by August 8.
As reported, the administration of Donald Trump has warned the Kremlin: if Vladimir Putin does not agree to a ceasefire in Ukraine by August 8, the United States will impose a new package of sanctions . The list includes a strike on the “shadow fleet”, customs restrictions, secondary sanctions and other levers of economic pressure. Washington hopes for negotiations, but is preparing for decisive action.
