Soldiers of the Unmanned Systems Forces have eliminated Russian Major General Anton Grunis, call sign “Grozny,” who commanded the 4th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade of the Russian Federation. According to the commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces, Robert Brovdy, the Russian general was killed on September 12 in the temporarily occupied territory of the Donetsk region.

According to him, the operation was carried out by soldiers of the 427th separate brigade of unmanned systems “Rarog” .

“General Grunis was eliminated by the “award” retribution unit of the Ptakhiv SBS on September 12, 2026 in a night den on the TOT in the Donetsk region,” Brovdi wrote.

He noted that this is the seventh confirmed elimination of a Russian military-level brigade, division, or army commander by SBS units. This is the count given by the commander himself.

Russian sources also reported on Grunis’ death. In particular, information about the death of the major general was disseminated by sources connected to his 4th motorized rifle brigade. At the same time, the Russian side did not name the exact circumstances and date of his death.

Grunis held the rank of major general and commanded the 4th separate motorized rifle brigade of the Russian army. In July 2026, he reported to Russian leader Vladimir Putin about the alleged complete capture of Konstantinovka, Donetsk region. At the time, the Ukrainian side denied the Russian Federation’s claims of full control over the city.

Putin had previously publicly praised Grunis, saying he was “fighting brilliantly.” In 2024, Grunis was promoted to major general.

At the end of August 2026, Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov presented Grunis with the “Gold Star” after being awarded the title of “Hero of Russia.”
