Odessa Mayor Gennady Trukhanov lost his Ukrainian citizenship based on information collected by the Security Service. As the special service found out, the current mayor is a citizen of the Russian Federation and holds a valid passport of this country.
This is stated in the official statement of the SBU, and the corresponding decision was approved by the Decree of the President of Ukraine, based on the submission of the Commission on Citizenship under the Head of State.
What the SBU established:
In December 2015, after the annexation of Crimea and the start of hostilities in eastern Ukraine, Trukhanov officially received a Russian passport.

The document was issued for 10 years and remains valid today.

In 2017, a court in the Moscow region revoked the internal passport of the Russian Federation, however, as the SBU explained, this is not a reason for losing Russian citizenship, since Russian legislation does not provide for automatic loss of citizen status in such a case.
In addition, Trukhanov still has a Russian identification code, which is displayed in the Federal Tax Service database.

As a reminder, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree on the deprivation of Ukrainian citizenship from Odessa Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov.
As reported, the Commission under the President adopted a decision to deprive the Mayor of Odessa, Gennady Trukhanov, of Ukrainian citizenship . After the president’s signature, his powers will automatically terminate, and the Secretary of the City Council, Ihor Koval, will begin to perform the duties of mayor.
It should be noted that Odessa Mayor Gennady Trukhanov stated that he plans to file lawsuits against the deprivation of his Ukrainian citizenship.
