SBU detained a Russian agent who was preparing an assassination attempt on the commander of the Third Army Corps

Military counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine prevented a Russian attempt to eliminate the commander of the Third Army Corps of the Defense Forces, Brigadier General Andriy Biletsky. As part of a special operation, law enforcement officers detained a Russian agent who was preparing a targeted missile and bomb strike on his location in the combat zone.

This was reported by the press service of the SBU.

According to the intelligence service, to correct the air attack, Russian intelligence services recruited a drone operator from another brigade that performs combat missions in the Kharkiv region.

The investigation established that the agent tried to obtain information about the time and place of Brigadier General Andriy Biletsky’s arrival at the unit’s position. To do this, he used access to official information and tried to covertly obtain restricted data from colleagues.

In addition, according to the SBU, the suspect was supposed to give the Russian side the coordinates of his brigade’s headquarters and training center. The occupation forces planned to carry out a separate shelling of these facilities.

Security Service officers exposed the agent at the initial stage of his activities. After that, law enforcement officers documented his contacts with the Russian side and took measures to secure the locations of Defense Forces units.

At the final stage of the special operation, the suspect was detained on the territory of the garrison. During the search, a smartphone was seized from him, with which he maintained contact with Russian representatives.

According to the case materials, the agent was recruited by Russian special services through his ex-wife, who lives in the temporarily occupied territory of Zaporizhzhia region and cooperates with the Russian Federation. To conceal his connection with the Russian side, the suspect regularly deleted correspondence.

Investigators of the Security Service informed him of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – high treason committed under martial law. The suspect is currently in custody. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

Recall that the Security Service of Ukraine announced the prevention of a terrorist attack in the center of Kropyvnytskyi. According to the investigation, an agent of the Russian special services was preparing an assassination attempt on one of the civil servants.

Earlier, Security Service officers and police officers detained a terrorist who, on the orders of Russian special services, blew up a car in Odessa on February 16.
