SBU foils attempt on head of defense enterprise in Kyiv region

An assassination attempt on the head of a defense enterprise was prevented in the Kyiv region. According to the SBU, Russian special services planned to blow up his car.

This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine.

The explosive device was secured under the driver’s seat of the car. The SBU and the National Police discovered it before the explosion occurred. The bomb contained one kilogram of hexogen, which is equivalent in power to approximately two kilograms of TNT.

According to the SBU, the plot was hatched by a 63-year-old man who moved to the Kyiv region from Luhansk Oblast. In February of this year, the Russian FSB recruited him through his son, who now lives in Russia.

The man bought two mobile phones and a power bank, and took the rest of the explosives from a previously prepared cache. He then assembled the bomb and planted it in the car.

The man also left a disguised phone with a power bank in front of the car. Through it, Russian intelligence services could see what was happening near the car and choose the moment to explode.

After that, the man left for Poland by bus. From there, he planned to get to Russia via Belarus.

A man was detained in Poland. Ukrainian law enforcement officers have already requested his extradition from the Polish side.

In Ukraine, he was informed in absentia of suspicion of attempted terrorist attack.
