SBU foils preparations for attacks on energy facilities in Kryvyi Rih
The Security Service of Ukraine has exposed a Russian agent who coordinated missile and drone attacks on the energy infrastructure of Kryvyi Rih.
This was reported by the press center of the SBU.
Counterintelligence detained the attacker in the Dnipropetrovsk region. According to the investigation, the priority targets of the Russian attacks were local heat and electricity generating enterprises.
To launch strikes, the agent conducted additional reconnaissance near energy facilities, ascertained their technical condition after the attacks, and passed the collected information to the FSB supervisor.
The investigation found that a 31-year-old assistant engineer at a mining company in the region was collaborating with Russian intelligence. The FSB recruited him after he posted anti-Ukrainian comments on Telegram channels.
To gather intelligence, the agent traveled by public transport and photographed the exterior facades of energy facilities. He also recorded the locations of Defense Forces personnel and military equipment.
The SBU detained the suspect at his place of residence after another reconnaissance mission, when he was preparing a report for the Russian curator.
During the searches, law enforcement officers seized two smartphones that the agent used to gather information and communicate with the FSB.
Investigators informed him of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – high treason committed under martial law.
The suspect is in custody. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
As previously reported, the Security Service of Ukraine exposed a 17-year-old Russian military intelligence agent in Ivano-Frankivsk who was helping the enemy prepare a new attack on the energy infrastructure of the Carpathian region.
