SBU foils series of terrorist attacks in Ukraine: former deputy head of the State Emergency Service among organizers

The SBU has exposed a criminal group that was preparing a series of terrorist attacks, arsons, and assassination attempts on people in various regions of Ukraine. Among the suspects is the former deputy head of the State Emergency Service, who, according to the investigation, ordered crimes against judges and a local activist.

This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine.

According to the investigation, the group members planned to blow up a construction crane near a residential complex in Chernihiv. After the explosion, the crane was supposed to fall on a high-rise building and parked cars, which could have resulted in numerous casualties.

To carry out this plan, the organizers sought perpetrators through connections in the criminal environment. However, the SBU managed to identify their plans in advance and take control of the situation.

Law enforcement officers also prevented the bombing of the CCC building in Prykarpattia. Following the organizers’ instructions, the perpetrators made a homemade explosive device from plastic and electric detonators. They planned to throw it into the window of the administrative building.

With the assistance of the leadership of the CCC and the Ivano-Frankivsk region SP, the SBU conducted a special operation and simulated an explosion. After that, the former employee of the State Emergency Service, according to the special service, ordered new crimes.

This concerns the bombing of the private homes of the chairman and two judges of the Chernihiv Court of Appeal. According to the SBU, it was these judges who sentenced him to seven years in prison in 2024 for car theft.

In addition, the former official ordered an attack on a local activist. The perpetrator was instructed to shoot the man in the limbs and pour sulfuric acid over him.

The SBU also established the involvement of the head of the Chernihiv regional organization of one of the political forces in organizing the terrorist attacks and arson attacks. He is outside Ukraine and, according to the investigation, financed crimes in the north and west of the country.

The organizers were informed of suspicion under a number of articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, including attempted terrorist act, attempted intentional grievous bodily harm, and preparation for the destruction or damage of a judge’s property by arson or explosion.

Two suspects, who are abroad, were charged in absentia. They are planned to be put on the international wanted list.
