SBU foils terrorist attack in the center of Rivne: Russian agent detained “red-handed”

The Security Service of Ukraine has prevented a terrorist attack in the center of Rivne. According to the investigation, a Russian agent planted an improvised explosive device in a garbage can near one of the state institutions.
The SBU reported this.
According to the special services, after planting the explosives, the suspect informed his Russian handler about it via messenger.
The SBU stated that the explosion was planned to be activated remotely during rush hour to cause as many civilian casualties as possible.
Law enforcement officers uncovered the preparation of the terrorist attack in advance and detained the agent “red-handed” when he tried to leave the scene. The improvised explosive device was seized and neutralized.
According to the investigation, the detainee worked as a courier for a local delivery service. He came to the attention of Russian special services through Telegram channels looking for “easy money.”
After being recruited, the man, under the guise of a delivery man, traveled around the city on a moped and photographed the outer perimeters and parking lots of government facilities.
He passed the collected materials on to the Russian curator, who later sent him the coordinates of a cache containing an improvised explosive device.
During the search, a smartphone with intelligence images and correspondence with a representative of the Russian special services was seized from the detainee.
The man was informed of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 15 and Part 2 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – a completed attempt to commit a terrorist act.
He is being held without bail. If convicted, he faces up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property .
Law enforcement officers are also considering the additional qualification of his actions as high treason.
