Sea Baby naval drones, developed by the Security Service of Ukraine, struck two sanctioned oil tankers belonging to the Russian shadow fleet—KAIRO and VIRAT—in the Black Sea. The operation was jointly conducted by the 13th Main Directorate of Military Counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the Ukrainian Navy.
This was reported by the media, citing sources in the SBU.
According to the source, both vessels suffered critical damage after the attack and are effectively out of service. This, according to Ukrainian intelligence, will be a significant blow to Russia’s ability to transport oil.
The attack utilized upgraded Sea Baby naval drones, capable of covering long distances and equipped with enhanced warheads. At the time of the strike, the tankers were empty—they were en route to the port of Novorossiysk for loading.
According to a source told Hromadske, the destroyed ships could have been carrying approximately $70 million worth of oil and were being used by Russia to circumvent international sanctions.
On the evening of November 28, Reuters and Bloomberg reported two explosions on sanctioned tankers in the Black Sea off the coast of Turkey.
At the same time, the Caspian Pipeline Consortium stated that unmanned boats attacked their marine terminal in Novorossiysk, resulting in damage to the single-point mooring equipment.
Also on the night of November 29, Ukrainian Defense Forces launched a series of deep strikes against strategic targets in Russia.
