The Security Service of Ukraine has struck a tanker belonging to the Russian shadow fleet in the neutral waters of the Mediterranean Sea. The operation was carried out at a distance of more than 2,000 kilometers from the territory of Ukraine.
This was reported by “Ukrainska Pravda” with reference to a source in the SBU.
According to the publication’s source, the special operation was carried out by the SBU’s Special Operations Center “A”. Ukrainian special forces attacked the QENDIL tanker with drones, which Russia was using to circumvent sanctions.
At the time of the impact, the ship was not carrying any cargo and was empty, so the operation did not pose a threat to the environmental situation in the region.
As a result of the attack, the tanker received critical damage and can no longer be used for its intended purpose.
The SBU stressed that Russia used this vessel for illegal earnings, the funds from which were directed to the war against Ukraine. According to the norms of international law and the laws of war, such an object is a legitimate target.
It was previously reported that on the night of December 19, Russian drones attacked seven regions of the Russian Federation, causing power outages in the Oryol and Rostov regions and a fire at the Togliattiazot plant in Togliatti.
As a reminder, on the night of December 18, the Rostov region of the Russian Federation was attacked by drones. Rostov-on-Don, Bataysk, and Taganrog were hit.
