The Polish Ministry of Defense denied reports of the suspension of the supply of military aid to Ukraine due to the decision of the Lviv Regional Council to declare 2027 the year of the UPA.
This was stated by Janusz Seimei, a representative of the Polish Ministry of Defense, in a comment to the Fakt publication.
Earlier, “European Truth” and RBC-Ukraine , citing their own sources, reported that Warsaw suspended the transfer of a large-scale package of military aid to Ukraine in response to the decision of Lviv deputies.
“Due to their irresponsible actions, the supply of this package has now been suspended. Active work is underway through closed channels to resolve the problem that was created out of thin air,” said the interlocutor of “European Truth.”
However, the Polish Defense Ministry denied this information.
“This information is false,” Seimei emphasized.
What preceded
On October 20, deputies of the Lviv Regional Council supported the proposal to declare 2027 the year of UPA commander Roman Shukhevych, OUN activist and poet Oleh Olzhych, and the Ukrainian Insurgent Army. The initiator was Svyatoslav Sheremeta, a deputy of the regional council and director of the Dolya center, who is engaged in exhumations, including of victims of the Volyn tragedy.
The decision provoked a sharp reaction from the Polish authorities. Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosińska-Kamysz called it “unacceptable” and Prime Minister Donald Tusk called it “suicidal tactics.” The mayors of Krakow and Przemysl also proposed suspending partnership relations with Lviv.
That same evening, Poland added Sheremet to its list of undesirable persons and banned him from entering the Schengen zone until 2031. The MP himself called this reaction “very strange” and emphasized that every nation has the right to its own heroes. He also recalled that in 2017, Poland had already declared him persona non grata due to his views on history.
At the same time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine called the decision of the Lviv Regional Council “counterproductive” for the development of Ukrainian-Polish relations. The department noted that the deputies did not consult with the central authorities, and called on the Polish side to “refrain from drastic steps.”
