Scandalous Metropolitan of the Russian Orthodox Church Hilarion detained in the Czech Republic

Metropolitan Hilarion (Alfeyev) of the Russian Orthodox Church was detained in the Czech Republic. During a search of his car, police found containers with a white substance.

This is reported by Radio Prague International.

The incident occurred on May 24 in Karlovy Vary. According to the publication, the metropolitan was accompanied by a cameraman in the car.

During a search of the car, law enforcement officers found four small containers with a white substance in the trunk.

Hilarion himself stated that he had nothing to do with the illegal storage of prohibited substances.

In recent years, the metropolitan has repeatedly been involved in scandals. Previously, he headed the Budapest-Hungarian Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church and received Hungarian citizenship.

After accusations of sexual harassment by his cellmate, Georgy Suzuki, Hilarion was transferred to serve at the Church of Saints Peter and Paul in Karlovy Vary.

Czech media also reported that the metropolitan could be added to the sanctions list due to suspicions of ties to Russian special services.
