The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has established that the 2025/2026 academic year in general secondary education institutions will last from September 1, 2025 to June 30, 2026. At the same time, the final structure of the educational process, including the dates of completion of classes and holidays, will be determined by the schools themselves, taking into account the security situation and the needs of students.
This was reported by People’s Deputy Oleksiy Honcharenko.
According to the resolution, the 2025/2026 school year will begin on September 1, 2025, and will last until June 30, 2026.
According to Honcharenko, regional and Kyiv city military administrations, as well as founders of educational institutions, must ensure the organization of the beginning of the educational process depending on the security situation in each region.
The Ministry of Education and Science emphasized that June 30 is set as the deadline for the end of the academic year, but the specific dates for the end of classes and the beginning of vacations will be determined by the pedagogical council of each institution. When making a decision, the following factors are taken into account:
- academic workload;
- the security situation in the region;
- needs and condition of students;
- readiness of the teaching staff.
Thus, the dates of graduation, last bell, and summer vacation may differ significantly in different schools.
The Ministry of Education and Science also clarified that June is not a mandatory school month. Educational institutions can end the school year in May or use June for consultations, individual classes, project days, or educational excursions. Such formats, according to the department, help compensate for educational losses, but their implementation is the right, not the obligation of the school.
Thus, despite the general framework, each educational institution has the opportunity to independently organize the completion of the educational process and summer vacation, based on its own conditions and students’ needs.
We remind you that parents of children who are going to first grade this year will be able to receive 5,000 hryvnias as part of the new “Student Package” program. The funds can be used for school supplies, clothes, and shoes. The application must be submitted by November 15, 2025 through the “Diya” application or Monobank.
