Secret contracts, billions and drones: journalist reveals the real reason for pressure on NABU
Journalist and founder of the “Our Money” project Yuriy Nikolov suggested that the attack on NABU’s independence may be directly related to investigations into drone production — in particular, to classified multi-billion contracts that companies associated with the president’s inner circle received.
In his post, Nikolov writes that NABU detectives have touched on a very sensitive topic – the financing of drones, where tens of billions of hryvnias were “scattered” under closed contracts. Among the beneficiaries are companies connected, according to him, with partners of Volodymyr Zelensky, head of the Ukrainian People’s Party Andriy Yermak, and head of the Servant of the People faction Davyd Arakhamia.
“According to ‘UP’, suspicion was even being raised against Mindich himself,” the journalist notes.
Nikolov hints that it has long been known in government circles which legal entities are hiding high profits in the field of defense procurement. But this is taboo for public discussion, because “Putin will find out and attack.”
The journalist also draws attention to the fact that the funds that Ukraine is asking for from Western partners under the slogan of supporting the national military-industrial complex may go to dubious projects:
“I don’t know if the West, from which Zelensky is asking for money for Ukrainian weapons manufacturers to pay for our protection and the cronies’ scheming, knows about this,” he wrote.
According to Nikolov, the opaque financing of some drone production projects is to the detriment of other important areas, such as the development of missiles or domestic analogues of the Shahed. And this is not a question of the future, but a direct threat now.
“Directing such gigantic flows to the production of long-term ineffective drones by the president’s cronies means there is no money for the production of the necessary missiles. FOR TIMELY production, not when the p….cut has already come,” the journalist concluded.
As a reminder, on Tuesday, July 22, the Verkhovna Rada voted for a bill that significantly limits the powers of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP), effectively subordinating their activities to the Prosecutor General.
As reported, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office have published an official statement regarding draft law No. 12414, which is being prepared for the second reading in the Verkhovna Rada. The anti-corruption bodies warn that the latest amendments to the document pose a serious threat to the independence of their activities.
