Secret “date”: SBU detained a Russian agent who was preparing a terrorist attack against a military officer
The Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police have detained a Russian agent who tried to eliminate a National Guard serviceman by setting up a fake meeting.
This was reported by the press service of the SBU.
It was established that an attacker recruited by Russian special services lured a Ukrainian soldier to one of the courtyards in the capital through a dating chat. A scooter with a homemade explosive device hidden inside was parked near the planned meeting place.
When the soldier arrived, the terrorist remotely activated the IED. An explosion occurred, but fortunately no one was injured.
The detained man was a 19-year-old resident of Kyiv region who was looking for “easy money” in pro-Russian Telegram channels. After being recruited, he moved to Kyiv, made explosives on the instructions of the curator, and prepared the means for a terrorist attack.
After the failed attempt, the curator sent him to Pryluky in the Chernihiv region. There, the agent set fire to a military vehicle and was preparing a new terrorist attack. Law enforcement officers detained him immediately after the arson.
During the search, explosive components and a phone with evidence of collaboration with the enemy were seized from the suspect.
He was informed of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (terrorist act). According to the law, he faces up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out by SBU officers in Kyiv and the region together with the National Police under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.
