On September 5, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico held a meeting in Uzhhorod.
Summing up the negotiations, Zelenskyy stated that Slovakia supports Ukraine in its movement towards the European Union.
“This is very significant. We also see that Ukraine and Moldova should continue to move together towards membership in the European Union,” he wrote.
Separately, during the press conference, the leaders discussed the energy situation. In particular, the Ukrainian president said that Kyiv is ready to contribute to Bratislava’s energy stability, but for this it must stop buying Russian resources.
In addition, Zelensky assured that Ukraine would like Slovakia to join the security guarantees.
“We are working with our partners and believe that it would be right if Slovakia were also part of this new security system,” he stressed.
In turn, Fico noted that Slovakia is a small country, so it cannot play a decisive role, but will support all initiatives that contribute to a ceasefire.
It was previously reported that the Slovak delegation included Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Denisa Saková and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Juraj Blanar, while the Ukrainian leader was accompanied by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko .
