The International Criminal Court has extended the deadline for submitting nominations for new judges until April 12, 2026.
This is reported by “European Pravda” with reference to the Secretariat of the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute.
Countries can submit their candidacies by email or courier until midnight on the specified date.
Ukraine is participating in this process for the first time, as it became a full-fledged state party to the Rome Statute on January 1, 2025. This gives it the opportunity to nominate its own candidates for the court.
During ratification, Ukraine applied a norm that provides for a seven-year limitation on the court’s jurisdiction over war crimes against Ukrainian citizens.
Participation in the selection will allow Ukrainian lawyers to join the work of international justice. The extension of the deadlines provides additional time for the preparation of candidacies.
It was previously reported that Ukraine did not submit an application for the election of judges to the International Criminal Court, missing the specified deadline.
