Semifinal in Indian Wells: Svitolina will meet the world’s third racket
In the semifinals of the prestigious WTA 1000 tournament in Indian Wells, Ukrainian Elina Svitolina (WTA 9) will meet world number three Elena Rybakina from Kazakhstan.
Rybakina defeated fifth seed Jessica Pegula from the United States in straight sets in the quarterfinals, 6:1, 7:6 (7:4), playing her eighth head-to-head match and winning her fifth victory over the American.
Svitolina and Rybakina have previously met six times at the tournament level, the score of the matches was 3:3. The last time the tennis players played was in 2025 in Madrid, when the Ukrainian won.
Rybakina also defeated Haley Baptiste, Marta Kostyuk and Sonej Kartal en route to the semifinals. She became only the fifth player since 2000 to record 11 or more consecutive wins over WTA top-10 opponents, joining Venus and Serena Williams, Martina Hingis and Iza Swintek.
As reported, in the quarterfinals, the Ukrainian defeated the world number two Iga Świątek from Poland in a tense match.
