Serhiy Fedorenko was temporarily appointed head of Naftogaz: what is known about him

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that the company’s commercial director, Serhiy Fedorenko, will become the interim acting head of Naftogaz of Ukraine. He was appointed after Serhiy Koretskyi became Prime Minister of Ukraine.

According to the president, the independent supervisory board of Naftogaz appointed Serhiy Fedorenko to manage the company for a specified period. Zelensky noted that Fedorenko worked together with Serhiy Koretsky on the transformation of Ukrnafta.
“A critical priority is preparation for the heating season. The independent supervisory board of Naftogaz has harmoniously appointed Serhiy Fedorenko, a professional person, to manage the company for a certain period: he went through the transformation of Ukrnafta together with Serhiy Koretsky. This was the path to successfully cleansing all internal processes in the company from predatory oligarchic influence, and thanks to this, Ukrnafta has become one of the most profitable state-owned companies,” the president said.
Zelensky also reported that during a meeting with Serhiy Koretsky, he discussed preparations for the heating season after another Russian attack on Naftogaz facilities.
“We discussed with the Prime Minister what steps are needed in such conditions, and it is important that, despite the constant Russian attacks, we implement everything we agreed on to prepare for winter,” he added.
Serhiy Fedorenko became the Commercial Director of Naftogaz Group in July 2025. He is also a member of the company’s management board and is responsible for commercial direction, international contracts, and energy procurement.
Prior to working at Naftogaz, Fedorenko held a similar position at Ukrnafta, where he was responsible for the purchase and sale of petroleum products, supply logistics, gas and electricity trading, management of a network of gas stations, and B2B fuel sales.
In 2015-2023, he worked as the Director for Commercial Affairs at Ukrgazvydobuvannya and was a member of the company’s board.
In 2019-2022, he also headed the Naftogaz Oil Trading company, and in 2022-2023, he served as a volunteer in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
As is known, the Verkhovna Rada appointed Serhiy Koretsky as Prime Minister of Ukraine . The corresponding decision was supported by 289 people’s deputies. Before his appointment as Prime Minister, Koretsky headed NJSC “Naftogaz of Ukraine”.
