“Servants” blocked the decision of the Kyiv City Council’s budget commission on assistance to Kyiv residents and utility workers, which was initiated by “Eurosolidarity”
Deputies from the Servant of the People party blocked the decision of the Kyiv City Council’s budget commission to provide financial assistance to Kyiv residents and utility workers who have suffered the most from the consequences of the energy crisis. The initiative was submitted by the European Solidarity faction.
This was announced at a briefing after a closed meeting of the Kyiv City Council by the leader of European Solidarity in the Kyiv City Council, the head of the specialized commission on healthcare, social and veterans’ policy, Maryna Poroshenko.
According to her, it was about urgent financial support for the most vulnerable categories of the population – the elderly, the sick, families with children, who were hit by the shutdown of heat and electricity. However, during the budget commission meeting, a number of deputies abstained from voting, effectively blocking the decision.
“We were unable to overcome the political confrontation. A number of deputies abstained from voting, thereby blocking assistance to people who are actually surviving in cold homes today,” said Maryna Poroshenko.
She emphasized that the responsibility of deputies is not political games, but the protection of the health and lives of Kyiv residents.
“Shame on such deputies. If political priorities are more important to them than people, they have no place in the Kyiv City Council,” the leader of the “EU” emphasized.
Deputies of the European Solidarity faction also demand that the central government return 8 billion hryvnias to the Kyiv budget, which were previously withdrawn in violation of the Constitution and laws on local self-government.
“Kyiv has the right to these funds. They were taken illegally and used for other purposes. Today, Kyiv residents need heat, generators, and support, not political experiments,” said MP Lyudmila Kovalevska.
Separately, the EU faction initiated the allocation of additional funds for municipal employees who are working around the clock to eliminate the consequences of shelling. This decision also could not even be included on the agenda of the budget committee.
“Communal workers work 24/7 and deserve real support. But the “servants of the people” did not even support the consideration of this issue,” emphasized deputy Dinara Gabibullaeva.
Maryna Poroshenko announced that the European Solidarity faction will initiate an extraordinary meeting of the Kyiv City Council to adopt a decision in support of the people of Kyiv. The faction calls for rejecting politics and immediately focusing on helping people.
As previously reported, during a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada, Petro Poroshenko called for an urgent discussion with Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, who was present in the session hall, on the issue of restoring energy infrastructure.
