Today marks seven years since the second round of the 2019 presidential election, when Volodymyr Zelensky received a high level of support from Ukrainians and a mandate for radical changes in the country.
This is stated in his election program.
At that time, candidate Zelensky built his campaign on the idea of a “dream Ukraine” – a state without corruption, with high social standards, fair courts, and a new quality of government.
Among the key promises he made in the program:
- democracy through referendums and digital tools;
- lifting the immunity of the president, deputies and judges;
- the fight against corruption and the inevitability of punishment;
- the end of the war and the return of occupied territories;
- economic development through business and investment support;
- introduction of insurance medicine and raising social standards;
- digitalization of the state and the launch of the “state in a smartphone”.
Separately, Zelenskyy emphasized that “the state should work for the person,” and the key principles should be dignity, justice, and equality before the law.
The program also discussed rebooting the judicial system, demonopolizing the economy, creating a transparent land market, and ensuring the country’s energy independence.
At the same time, a significant part of these promises over time became the subject of heated debate in society – both regarding the pace of their implementation and their compliance with the declared principles.
