President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that attack drones like the Shahed currently pose a greater threat to Ukrainian cities than ballistic missiles.
He said this during a meeting with journalists on October 27.
According to the head of state, ballistic missiles are effectively intercepted in areas where Patriot systems operate, and a massive wave of “shahids” requires comprehensive defensive measures. “To shoot down such a large number of “shahids” at such an altitude, we must use everything we can,” Zelenskyy emphasized.
The President also discussed the use of various air defense and aviation assets to repel attacks—interceptors, F-16s, and helicopters—and drew attention to the impact of weather conditions on defense effectiveness. He added that in November, the Ukrainian Armed Forces expect to reach a level of 500–800 interceptors per day, but noted the need to train a sufficient number of operators for mobile fire teams.
Zelensky also noted that, along with air defense, Ukraine needs long-range weapons to adequately respond to enemy attacks.
Earlier, the Ukrainian company General Chereshnya unveiled a drone capable of countering Russian attack drones – the “anti-shahed.”
