A conflict arose between US President Donald Trump and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Maloni after the American leader’s statements about a joint photo at the G7 summit. After that, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani canceled a planned visit to the United States.
This is reported by ANSA .
After the G7 summit in France, Donald Trump said in a comment to journalists from the Italian TV channel La7 that Giorgia Malone allegedly asked him to take a photo together.
“I spoke to Georgia Maloney at the G7 summit. I wasn’t obligated to do it, but she begged me to take a picture with her. I felt sorry for her,” Donald Trump said.
In response, George Maloney stated in an Instagram post that the US president’s words were untrue.
“I’m honestly shocked. I don’t know why the president of the United States behaves this way towards his allies. Besides, this is not the first time. There is one thing he should remember: neither I nor Italy ever beg,” said Giorgia Malone.
After that, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said that Donald Trump’s statements insulted all of Italy, and announced the cancellation of his visit to the United States, which was scheduled for June 21-22.
“The serious and insulting statements made by President Trump to Prime Minister Giorgia Maloni offend all of Italy. For this reason, I have decided to cancel my visit to the United States,” said Antonio Tajani.
